What about the film's formal procedures is conventional, and what is not? How is the film edited? What kind of decors does it use? What means does it use to tell its story? Why is the narrative framed by the ride on the train? How is the story influenced by the way it is told?

Why does Buñuel use two actresses to play the same role? What is the effect of this procedure upon the audience? How does it affect the continuity of the film? Is there any systematic reason why Molina is used in some scenes, Bouquet in others? Or does the alternation seem random?

Consider Buñuel's use of repetition. What instances of it do you find, and what significance (if any) would you grant it? Does the narrative have a beginning, middle, and end? Or does the use of repetition make it impossible for anything to progress in such a manner?

What other incongruities do you notice in the course of the film? Do all these little details (e.g. the sack) have significance? or is their arbitrariness perhaps the point?

What do you make of the film's repeated incidents of terrorism?
